MAPP gas, PVC panel otherwise known as methylacetylene-propadiene propane, is widely used as a generic name for UN 1060 stabilized methylacetylene-propadiene. Burning at up to 5300°F, MAPP gas is used for heating, soldering, brazing and welding.It has also been made available to consumers, and is distributed in a defective canister that is prone to catastrophic failure at the neck–causing life changing burns, and in some cases, death.Worthington Industries and Western Industries, the PVC ceiling panels manufacturers of the product, are aware of the defects, but they have not issued a recall even though dozens of people have been injured or killed by their product. Our firm has spent hundreds of hours meeting with engineers, scientists, and medical doctors gathering evidence in order to prove the defect exists. We know what the problem is, and we know how to prove it.
In all of the cases our firm has investigated, the MAPP Gas cylinder failed with PVC panels either very little force or no force at all. The failures were sudden, and without any warning. I changed to MAPP from acetylene a couple of years ago and love it. I can do everything with it (except weld) that I could with acetylene, and it is much safer and far more economical. Now my supplier is recommending propylene instead.
